(Casi) ordenando probabilidades
Profs. Alvarez-Esteban, del Barrio y Matran, de la
Universidad de
Valladolid, España.
(Almost) ordering probabilities
A major problem in Statistics is the comparison of distributions. Today, many researchers try to
answer questions such as: What is the best treatment for a given disease? Are men's salaries higher
than those of women?
In this talk, we will first show the limitations of basing these comparisons on the use of a single
parameter. Next, we will explain what the stochastic order of distributions consists in.
Most of the exposition will be devoted to analyze some weak points of this order and to show how
we can alleviate them by making a modification of the definition that allows a small part of the
population to be left "disorderly".
The results that I will present here have been obtained in collaboration with the Profs. Alvarez-
Esteban, del Barrio and Matran, from the University of Valladolid, Spain.
